Stamped Concrete

When people think of concrete, they often picture cold, plain blocks of grey material. This is completely understandable, as many concrete installations and structures are not designed to be visually appealing, just physically durable. But if you’re thinking that concrete structures can only come in those forms, you’re certainly mistaken. At Pro Concrete Summerville, our concrete contractors have been designing and constructing concrete installations for decades between them, and they know how to make aesthetically pleasing work. One method for adding a little more visual flair is the use of stamped concrete. This brand of concrete can be used on a variety of structures and installations, giving you a far more varied appearance than you might get with the plainer variety of concrete. If this is something that would interest you, we’re the concrete company to place your trust in. Understanding Stamped Concrete

So, you know that stamped concrete gives you more variety and flexibility in terms of visuals, but why is that? How does it differ from regular concrete? In basic terms, stamped concrete is where the surface of concrete installations are stamped, patterned, or embossed using a range of colors or stencils. When the process is completed to a high standard – which it always is with Pro Concrete Summerville – it could be that you don’t even realize you’re looking at concrete. This is something that is commonly seen with concrete patios and driveways.

How Does Stamped Concrete Work?

Now that you have a basic idea of what stamped concrete is, let’s look at how the installation process works. We start by pouring the concrete and mixing in the primary color (though mixing can take place before pouring too). After the color is mixed in, the color release agent is added to the mix before the texturizing matts are laid down on the surface. At this point, the waiting begins. Once the mixture is dry, the color release agents are cleaned off and a sealant is applied to ensure that the surface has significant protection. After all of these steps are completed, there is a waiting period of 48 hours before the surface can be walked on. For vehicle use, the waiting period is about a week.

Visual Versatility

The number one reason why people choose stamped concrete is because it has a lot of visual versatility. It isn’t just that it looks a little more interesting than plain concrete – if that’s your taste – but that it can look like any number of other materials. Stamped concrete can be designed to mimic other materials, if that’s your preference, though it’s likely more common to see it used to create brand new patterns and styles.

No Compromises

Usually, when you want to inject a bit more visual stimulation into a property, you need to compromise on visual splendor. For many materials, it’s one or the other. Stamped concrete is completely different in that respect. You get an astonishing level of durability with stamped concrete, but the visual variation that you might have thought impossible.
